Our specialist Health and Life Sciences Advisory (HLSA) team helps healthcare providers, public sector organisations and life sciences clients create the estates and infrastructure needed to deliver better services, improve patient outcomes, innovate and support future growth. We provide strategic property advisory and project delivery expertise to NHS Trusts, independent healthcare providers, local authorities and life sciences organisations.
Our clients include major NHS Trusts, as well as strategic partners across government and the life sciences sectors, all with significant property portfolios. As an Assistant Surveyor, you will work alongside experienced property consultants and surveyors on some of the UK's most complex and impactful health and life sciences estate programmes. You will gain exposure to a broad range of property advisory disciplines including estate strategy, valuation, development consultancy, agency and transactions, helping clients optimise their property portfolios, secure investment and deliver long-term value and operational efficiency.
From an early stage, you will have opportunities to work directly with clients, attend stakeholder workshops and contribute to the delivery of high-profile advisory commissions. This is an excellent opportunity to accelerate your professional development and build the experience needed to progress towards Chartered Surveyor status through the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) APC pathway. We actively support colleagues through the RICS APC process and provide mentoring, training and practical experience across a wide range of property disciplines.
You will develop the skills needed to provide specialist property consultancy services and related technical advice, helping clients shape and deliver effective estate strategies. This role offers a clear pathway for progression, providing opportunities to take on increasing responsibility, develop specialist expertise and build long-term client relationships as part of a growing national advisory team. The role is based in London, with hybrid-working and office-based options available.
A little more about your role…
- Supporting major NHS Trusts and public sector organisations to transform their estates, optimise property portfolios and unlock investment opportunities.
- Contributing to development appraisals, business cases and investment strategies that shape the future of healthcare and life sciences infrastructure across the UK.
- Supporting agency services across property disposals, acquisitions and lettings.
- Working with colleagues to provide consultancy advice on leases, ownership and legal title occupation.
- Assisting qualified surveyors in the preparation and delivery of Red Book valuations.
No two days look the same. You might start by pulling together property and planning analysis for an estate strategy, join a client workshop to test commercial and healthcare redevelopment options for a site, then spend the afternoon working up a development appraisal or supporting a colleague negotiating commercial lease terms. You will sit alongside surveyors, architects, town planners and infrastructure specialists, so questions get answered quickly and you will pick up experience across disciplines at real pace. Much of the work is live and client-facing, and your contribution will feed directly into advice that shapes how healthcare and life sciences estates are used across the UK.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Experience of, or a genuine interest in, developing a career in property consultancy, estate strategy, valuation, development or transactions.
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in real estate or equivalent accredited by RICS
- Confidence in supporting workshop preparation, stakeholder engagement and project meetings.
- Enthusiasm for developing client relationships and delivering high-quality professional advice.
- Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn
- An appreciation of commercial drivers and the ability to balance client objectives with practical property solutions.
- A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of tasks and of your own professional development.
- A willingness to travel and work flexibly to meet client and project needs.
