Your Role
Working as part of a small team, you’ll be providing expertise and delivering solutions on a wide range of complex surface water issues using blue-green infrastructure and sustainable drainage practices. You will provide advice and guidance to our clients, and support our engineers within the team. Promoting blue-green infrastructure and SuDS to others within the wider WSP business, as well as applying your technical skills to projects of local and national importance, will also be a challenge your role will undertake.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical input on urban drainage projects predominantly SuDS and blue-green infrastructure.
- Work on bespoke, and challenging projects.
- Produce high-quality technical outputs.
- Support the development of engineering solutions, from feasibility studies to detailed design and construction.
- Assist the preparation of reports and supporting drawings, specifications and schedules.
- Contribute to the learning of the wider team through knowledge sharing exercises.
- Promote the WSP brand through appropriate industry forums and conferences.
Your Team
As an Assistant Engineer you will occupy a pivotal role within the Blue Green Infrastructure team, providing the foundation for all our work. The team comprises a mix of engineers with a wide range of industry experience, and services projects across the full spectrum of WSP’s client base. You could find yourself supporting the team in:
- Public realm improvement schemes & SuDS retrofit.
- Producing engineering designs for urban drainage projects.
- Working on high-profile projects, including HS2, Smart Motorways.
- Helping local authorities to prevent flooding to homes and businesses.
- Assisting in developing fee proposals and winning work.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. civil or environmental engineering, construction, environmental science, geography).
- Some knowledge in urban drainage design and an ability to check the technical outputs of others prior to issue.
- Some experience or understanding of hydraulic modelling, using industry-standard software (e.g. InfoWorks, FLOW).
- Competence with AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with any industry-standard geographical information systems (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, MapInfo).
- A high degree of computer literacy and an ability to work as part of a team.
