Hydrologist – Senior/Principal (WINEP and Water Resources) – WSP, Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and contribute to high-profile Water Industry Natural Environment Programme (WINEP) and Water Resources Management Plan (WRMP) projects across the UK.
  • Demonstrate a track record of contributing to the hydrological and water management elements of WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs in recent AMP cycles.
  • Develop rainfall–runoff models and apply calibration techniques.
  • Apply wider hydrology approaches required for water resources applications in England and Wales.
  • Have familiarity with demand management and water resources modelling approaches.
  • Understand and apply the latest UK water resources management regulations including the Water Resources Planning Guidelines and WINEP guidance (e.g., Preventing Deterioration and Environmental Destination).
  • Assess climate change resilience and ensure deliverables meet quality standards for clients and regulators.
  • Possess programming experience (e.g., Python and/or R) or an interest in developing these skills.
  • Write high-quality, concise reports and communicate effectively with the client and regulator stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with other sectors and disciplines to deliver hydrological components of diverse projects.

Qualifications

  • A water-focused MSc (e.g., hydrology & water resources, sustainable water management) and a BSc in a related subject (e.g., physical geography, earth sciences, geology, civil engineering).
  • You will have gained, or be working towards, chartership with a relevant professional body.
