Role - Senior to Associate Electrical Engineer, in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh office, focusing on the Data Centre sector with our Mission Critical Facilities team. You will work on exciting and technically challenging projects within this fast-paced sector. WSP is involved in numerous projects with Colocation Providers, End Users and Enterprise clients in the UK and across EMEA.

A Little More About Your Role

  • Support the team in developing conceptual designs for electrical distribution systems from EHV, HV, MV to Low Voltage, including high voltage equipment, generation equipment, UPS plant, low voltage switchgear and power control and monitoring systems.
  • Provide advice to clients regarding electrical systems/requirements to meet their business needs.
  • Lead the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment.
  • Provide written reports of system options in the form of design development notes.
  • Produce technical specifications for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines including Architects and Structural engineers.
  • Produce calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation for tender.
  • Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employers’ requirements, design specifications and all relevant safety codes.
  • Engage in a client-facing role discussing technical subjects and agreeing client requirements.
  • Work independently and as part of the WSP global project team.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards Chartered status) or equivalent experience.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant UK & EU regulations, design guides, etc.
  • IT literate with a technical understanding of relevant IT packages (e.g., Trimble).
  • Understanding of ETAP software for HV modelling (fault current, current flow & harmonics).
  • Understanding of Neher-McGrath method for calculating underground cable temperatures & ampacity.
  • Understanding of Tier classifications as defined by The Uptime Institute, TIA942 and EN50600.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also effectively lead, direct and mentor individuals.
  • Experience with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allocate/direction of work on projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD to allocate/direction of work on projects.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
  • Electrical design skills required:
  • Large Power (11kV) Distribution Systems.
  • Electrical Building Load Assessments.
  • Standby Generation and UPS.
  • Fire/Voice Alarm and Security Systems.
  • Data Centres and Financial Services Establishments.
  • Lighting Design (internal and external).
  • Lifts.
  • Combined Heat and Power Plant.
