A little more about your role:

The Great Grid Partnership requires a Compliance & Audit Manager to oversee WSP’s adherence to quality and business management standards across major electricity transmission projects. The role ensures compliance with multiple ISO standards while supporting project delivery teams through audits and effective documentation management.

The successful candidate will lead compliance activities, maintain quality documentation, and coordinate with National Grid and WSP teams to meet contractual obligations. This is a full-time position based in Birmingham, suited to a qualified quality professional with experience in major project compliance and auditing. Key responsibilities include managing corrective actions, delivering training, and preparing for internal and client audits within a 12-year, £10bn project framework.

Role Description

The Compliance and Audit Manager is responsible for ensuring WSP compliance across the project portfolio with internal business management systems and the standards and procedures set out in the Enterprise Agreement (notably ISO 9001, 20400, 26000, 44001, 45001 and 45003).

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership in driving quality, governance and compliance across large-scale infrastructure programmes, ensuring consistent application of organisational standards and best practice.

  • The ability to influence and support senior project leadership teams, embedding robust quality management throughout the project lifecycle.

  • A thorough understanding of quality management systems, governance frameworks and assurance processes within complex project environments.

  • Experience of developing, maintaining and improving management system documentation, controls and quality records.

  • The ability to interpret contractual requirements and translate these into practical quality and compliance obligations for delivery teams.

  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, capturing lessons learned and driving meaningful improvements across projects and programmes.

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients, partners, auditors and internal teams.

  • Experience planning, coordinating and managing internal and external audits, including preparation, facilitation and successful close-out of findings.

  • The ability to identify, manage and monitor corrective actions, ensuring issues are resolved effectively and improvements are embedded.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate quality requirements, risks and performance information clearly to a range of audiences.

  • Experience providing training, coaching and guidance to multidisciplinary teams, fostering a positive quality culture and promoting best practice.

  • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities, using quality performance data and insights to drive informed decision-making and continuous improvement.

  • The ability to operate confidently in a complex, client-facing environment, balancing the needs of the client, programme and business while maintaining high quality standards.

  • A collaborative and solutions-focused mindset, with a commitment to delivering quality outcomes and supporting programme success.
