Join WSP as an Assistant Environmental Advisor, working on a diverse portfolio of construction projects across Scotland. This field‑based role involves visiting sites to monitor environmental compliance, support design and operation teams, and collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Field‑based visits to construction sites (windfarm, grid connection, underground cabling, sub‑sea cabling, etc.) to monitor adherence to environmental legislation.
  • Carry out and support site inspections and audits of construction works against planning conditions and the Construction Environmental Management Plan.
  • Provide guidance and solutions to contractors and clients on environmental compliance and best practice methods.
  • Serve as a key point of contact, working closely with ecologists, hydrologists, archaeologists, engineers and other specialists to deliver an integrated environmental service.
  • Liaise with colleagues and subcontractors on environmental management practices.
  • Support operation and design teams on environmental compliance and project‑specific mitigation measures.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and onsite environmental guidance to contractors.
  • Work away from home between Monday and Friday, three weeks out of four.
  • Support site teams on incident investigation and reporting.
  • Manage tasks according to the approved scope of works, delivering high‑quality reporting and other deliverables on time and on budget.
  • Provide administrative support to the team.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management.
  • Understanding of a working construction site environment.
  • Membership of a professional body.
  • CSCS card (or in the process of gaining one).
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly between sites; suitable vehicle will be provided.
  • Knowledge of environmental management in a construction context.
  • Familiarity with environmental impact assessment legislation, policy and guidance.
  • Knowledge of Environmental Authorisations (Scotland) Regulations (EASR) and pollution prevention.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation.
  • Experience monitoring construction activities in line with best‑practice guidance on projects of various sizes.
  • Highly organised, pragmatic, solutions‑driven, proactive and reliable approach to work.
  • Ability to work under time pressure to resolve emerging environmental issues on site.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; confident speaking with clients and peers.
