At WSP, you will be part of a global team of experts delivering innovative engineering solutions on major projects that shape the built environment and transform society. WSP UK & Ireland is looking for an Engineer or a Senior Engineer to join our Advanced Structural Analysis team, part of the Building Specialists group of Property & Buildings. Our team provides specialist technical support across complex, high‑profile, multi‑disciplinary projects in the UK and globally.
Our work spans:
- Structural fire engineering
- Nonlinear and dynamic analysis
- Wind and seismic engineering
- Blast and impact analysis
We work across a diverse portfolio including tall buildings, stadia, long‑span roofs, transport hubs, and critical infrastructure, developing structural solutions that are both resilient to extreme events and commercially viable. The team is uniquely positioned to provide independent, technical advice, using state‑of‑the‑art analytical tools to solve some of the most challenging engineering problems. We offer a collaborative environment with opportunities to develop expertise across multiple advanced engineering domains.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing advanced structural models using finite element analysis (FEA) for complex engineering problems
- Undertaking detailed analysis of structures under a range of loading scenarios, including nonlinear and dynamic behaviour
- Contributing to structural fire engineering assessments and performance‑based design approaches
- Carrying out advanced structural analysis for complex, multidisciplinary projects
- Developing high‑fidelity FEA models of concrete and steel structures, applying appropriate material constitutive models
- Supporting the development of innovative and efficient structural solutions
- Contributing to research and development initiatives within the team
- Producing clear, high‑quality technical reports and presentations
- Engaging with clients and project teams when required, and collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:
- Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering
- Relevant industry experience in structural engineering or advanced analysis
- Experience in dynamic structural behaviour and conventional structural design principles
- Good understanding of FEA principles and applications
- Knowledge of Eurocode and familiarity with international standards (e.g. ASCE)
- Familiarity with design for extreme loading conditions
- Experience with analysis software such as ABAQUS, ETABS and SAP2000
- Experience with scripting or programming (e.g. Python)
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- MSc, MEng or PhD specialising in areas such as nonlinear structural dynamics, structural fire engineering, fracture mechanics, progressive collapse, wind or seismic engineering
- Awareness of UK Building Regulations (e.g. Approved Document B) in relation to structural fire
- Proficiency in tools such as Rhino/Grasshopper and CAD software
- Exposure to design of tall buildings or long‑span structures
- A proactive mindset and strong appetite for learning and developing new skills
