Engineer (Roads) – WSP
Location: Manchester or Liverpool (North West)
Job Description
The Engineer (Roads) will be a key member of the Roads team, using technical expertise to support high‑quality, cost‑effective design and delivery of highway projects.
Responsibilities
- Support the development of highway designs for a diverse range of sectors, clients and projects through all stages of the project life cycle.
- Take responsibility (or be actively engaged depending on experience) for ensuring projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
- Provide guidance and support to a team of experienced and developing technical staff, as appropriate.
- Support Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming, technical input to the pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
- Work across several varied multi‑disciplinary project/client accounts at any given time.
- Collaborate with clients, key stakeholders and internal teams to deliver the schemes/projects.
- Provide ad hoc support for site supervision, monitoring Contractor’s compliance with the Contract and ensuring works are in line with the Works Information.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- A passion for design and developing innovative solutions, demonstrating initiative and ingenuity to solve engineering problems.
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with experience in highway design.
- Working towards with CEng or IEng demonstrable progress.
- Relevant knowledge and experience of highway design at various stages of the project life cycle; specific experience in road geometry, roundabouts, at‑grade and grade‑separated junctions, inclusive active travel, highway drainage systems, road restraint systems, traffic sign and road marking design is advantageous.
- Knowledge of relevant design codes such as the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, TSRGD, and local authority design guidance, and experience preparing drawings for contract documentation and technical approvals, including departures from standard.
- Ability to use or direct and check the use of relevant software, e.g. Autodesk Civils 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage and/or PDS.
- Experience complying with Designer’s Duties under CDM regulations.
