A little more about your role…

Our Strategic Asset Management team is growing, working across sectors providing advisory and consultancy services to road, rail, aviation, local government and energy clients.

As a Technical Director in Asset Management, you will be a recognised subject matter expert and senior advisor, responsible for leading and shaping asset management strategies across infrastructure and other sectors.

Your role will be fundamental in leading technical and advisory assignments for clients on long-term capital investment planning, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.

You will work with senior executives, government agencies, and private sector clients to deliver high-impact consulting and technical solutions that improve asset performance and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic asset management frameworks for clients across infrastructure and other sectors, including highways, transportation, rail, defence, power and utilities.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex projects, applying expertise in risk-based decision-making, whole-life asset planning, information management and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead analytical staff and technical experts to inform long-term capital investment programmes.
  • Work with clients to assess how they currently manage their assets, identify organisational and operational improvement opportunities, and define how they would like to manage their assets in the future.
  • Lead strategic asset management advisory commissions, organisational transformation programmes and business case development for major infrastructure clients, acting as a trusted advisor to executive and board-level stakeholders.
  • Lead and manage tenders to support the production of high-quality winning submissions.
  • Act as a lead advisor, ensuring the integration of technology (Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems, Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or Decision Support Tools (DSTs) to enhance asset performance and resilience.
  • Oversee and manage multidisciplinary consulting projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and exceed client expectations.
  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities for process improvement, adoption of new technology and development of sustainability initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, representing WSP externally in professional societies, conferences and industry forums.
  • Mentor and develop a team of consultants, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture and ensuring all safety, health and well-being (SH&W) requirements are met.

  • What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • Extensive experience in asset management and management consultancy or advisory services, with a proven track record in strategy development, client leadership and delivery of complex consulting assignments.
  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of asset management practices and theory, business strategy, and their application across multiple sectors.
  • A strong expertise in ISO 55000, asset lifecycle planning, investment planning, risk-based asset management strategies and digital transformation in asset management.
  • Broad knowledge of the regulatory frameworks affecting infrastructure development in the UK.
  • The capability to engage and present to clients the creative and innovative development of technology, contributing to continuous improvement systems.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey new concepts and ideas to technical and non-technical colleagues effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience of working with asset data systems, including configuring or specifying Enterprise Asset Management, Computerised Maintenance Management Systems and Decision Support Tools.
  • Strong project management skills, having delivered tasks or projects that include planning, managing and completing deliverables.
  • A strong network across the transportation, highways, defence, utilities or broader infrastructure sectors, supported by demonstrable cross-sector experience.
  • Professional registration, such as being Chartered or Incorporated.
  • A desire to work and collaborate in a variety of styles: in large teams, small teams and independently; both online and in person.
  • A BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
