Senior Civil Infrastructure Engineer (Development)
Location: Cambridge, England. The role is full‑time, on site with opportunities for career growth.
Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Engineer to support the Development Team in Cambridge, focusing on civil engineering for development infrastructure. You will work within a team producing designs, drawings, and technical reports for construction projects, supporting planning applications and master‑planning.
Responsibilities
- Deliver day‑to‑day support in concept studies and design, leading to planning applications, technical approvals, and construction drawings.
- Contribute to development projects across all sectors and clients.
- Manage multiple multidisciplinary project/client accounts concurrently.
- Provide guidance and support to technical staff of various grades.
- Engage in client interaction, stakeholder management, internal and external design team liaison, and project management.
- Ensure projects are delivered to budget, programme, technical standards, and legal requirements.
- Participate in design stages from concept to detailed construction drawings and technical reports.
- Support the delivery of major projects such as HS2 Curzon Street Station, Birmingham Eden Project, and other high‑profile developments.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience in highway design, drainage strategy and design, flood risk assessment, and utility design and planning.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, geotechnics, building structures, and construction design stages.
- Ability to produce infrastructure masterplans, site appraisals, technical reports, design calculations, and construction drawings.
- Familiarity with design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Design Manual for Roads & Bridges, Manual for Streets, and Local Authority Design Guidance.
- Awareness of climate change, sustainability guidance, and emerging technical and planning guidance.
- Proficiency with civil engineering software including InfoDrainage, Civils 3D, PDS, and related design tools.
- Experience liaising with clients, co‑professionals, design teams, and statutory authorities to obtain approvals.
- Understanding of legal, planning, design, technical consents, adoption, and contract procedures for sewers, SuDS, highways, and utilities.
- Knowledge of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and project delivery.
- Postgraduate (or equivalent) background, nearing chartership or equivalent commercial experience.
