What if you could do the kind of work the world needs? At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

About your role... We are seeking a new team member at Consultant or Assistant Consultant level to support our growing focus on Freight and Logistics. We welcome applicants from a range of analytical and numerate backgrounds, including economics, data, policy or management consulting, as well as transport planning, freight and warehouse design and operations. The team is spread across the UK, and we would like the new joiner to ideally be based in an office that our Freight and Logistics team already have a presence in (Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, or Leeds).

In this role you will provide day‑to‑day support across a diverse portfolio of freight and logistics projects, potentially spanning one or more of the following areas:

  • Freight policy and strategy - supporting clients to develop robust evidence bases and providing advice aligned with national, regional and local policy frameworks.
  • Freight infrastructure – assisting with studies and business cases to improve the freight system, including key freight routes, lorry parking and amenities, and rail freight terminals.
  • Urban freight – helping clients enable efficient last‑mile operations while balancing placemaking, highway safety and public realm priorities.
  • Logistics planning – supporting the design and implementation of optimised logistics operations in complex or specialist environments, such as healthcare facilities and major infrastructure projects.
  • Freight decarbonisation – supporting policymakers, infrastructure investors and operators in the transition to zero‑emission freight and logistics fleets.

Your Team: We are a small, friendly and progressive team, bringing together a broad mix of grades, disciplines and backgrounds, with a strong culture of collaboration and mentorship. The Freight and Logistics team sits within WSP’s wider Transport & Mobility business, working across the UK to support public and private sector clients. Our work spans Local and Combined Authorities, national government (including DfT and National Highways), Network Rail, city regions, national frameworks, and freight operators and developers.

We focus on shaping the future of freight, developing policies, strategies and solutions that recognise freight as a vital user of the transport network and a critical enabler of businesses, communities and everyday life. Our work spans early concepts through to delivery—providing high‑level advice on freight planning, feasibility, policy development and investable business cases that support resilient, efficient and sustainable freight movement.

Our projects cover the full breadth of freight and logistics, including logistics infrastructure (freight corridors, lorry parking, terminals and ports), freight decarbonisation (vehicles and supporting infrastructure), urban logistics (kerbside management, last‑mile solutions, modal shift), and logistics planning (construction logistics, operational concepts, masterplanning and strategy).

We invest in your development, offering a dedicated business mentor, access to structured internal CPD, and full support through your Chartership journey (where applicable).

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • A genuine interest in shaping the future of freight and logistics systems, including the role of policy, technology and innovation.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with experience applying quantitative or structured approaches to complex, real‑world challenges.
  • The ability to think critically in unfamiliar subject areas and develop clear, evidence‑based insights.
  • Comfortable developing bespoke approaches to suit individual projects rather than relying on standard solutions.
  • Able to work across multiple subject areas at pace, managing competing priorities and switching context effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, compelling reports and presentations.
  • An agile and proactive mindset—asking the right questions, adapting to changing priorities, and identifying risks early.
  • Willing to work towards professional accreditation, where relevant.

Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all. Join our close-knit community of talented individuals who share your passion for making a positive impact. Our global team includes more than 80,000 employees, working together to make a difference in communities both close to home and around the world.

With us, you can. Apply today.
