At WSP, you will have opportunities to grow and do what matters. As a Principal Fire Engineer you will work on a variety of projects, ranging from university buildings in Scotland to high‑rise residential towers in London and international projects. Your goal will be to enable innovative architectural design while ensuring the fire safety of the building. Your day‑to‑day work will involve reviewing design information, liaising with other WSP disciplines such as Facades, Acoustics and Structures, presenting designs to local authorities and the Fire Service, and advising the design team on safety‑enhancing changes. In addition, WSP will support your professional registration via IFE and other professional organisations. You will have access to a bespoke programme that offers technical, professional and specialist development through training in report writing, project management, communications, commercial concepts, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the fire engineering aspects of multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Interpret design information, coordinate with other disciplines, and present findings to authorities and the fire service.
  • Advise design teams on safety improvements and inform project decisions.
  • Manage client updates and team briefings.
  • Participate in social events and team development activities.

Qualifications

  • BSc (BEng) or MSc (MEng) in Fire, Structural, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Experience within the fire engineering consulting industry.
  • Knowledge of relevant software packages and fire standards.
  • Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel to projects across the UK.
