Our Rail Operations performance and modelling team is continuing to grow, to support this continued growth we are looking for a rail modelling and simulation analyst, with experience in Discrete Event Simulation (DES). We have a growing capability in delivering DES within a rail environment. We are looking to appoint an experienced person to act as our UK based expert in delivering DES using AnyLogic, whilst also being capable of supporting our wider Rail modelling and simulation projects.
As our UK DES Expert you will champion its use, engaging internally and externally to support business development opportunities. You will support our Rail Operational planning Technical Discipline lead to build, develop and innovate our DES offering to our clients. In project roles you will act as lead for AnyLogic work overseeing work delivered by UK and India based resources. You will support the development and growth of our junior resources, supporting their technical capabilities to deliver DES and act in client facing roles to promote and demonstrate the value this form of modelling can bring to our clients. In your role you will be expected to engage the wider WSP digital community of practice and help support our growth in digital advisory work.
A little more about your roleā¦
- Act as a visible presence in the UK (and International) rail industry, and key point of contact with our clients, in promotion of the use of AnyLogic as a software modelling package, and communication of its capabilities, and ability to add value in influencing industry outcomes.
- Lead innovation in our use of AnyLogic and strengthen the range of analysis we can perform in the software, to develop innovative solutions to complex rail problems.
- Development of AnyLogic and analytical skills in junior team members and supporting the Railway Operations Planning Technical Discipline Lead in managing and developing the Competencies of the AnyLogic team.
- Developing high quality proposals for AnyLogic work to meet client requirements and proactively contributing to work-winning for WSP, working collaboratively with other internal WSP stakeholders to maximise these opportunities.
- Acting as a āGuiding Mind' and managing the technical delivery of AnyLogic work from project inception to close out within time and budget constraints, and overseeing that WSP Quality Assurance process have been applied to this work before it is finalised.
- Working closely with clients to scope out project modelling requirements, obtaining required inputs, and undertaking data analysis/preparation.
- Assisting to produce powerful written, concise and professional quality proposal, reports and presentations to our clients to positively influence their outcomes and decision-making.
- Leading and enacting lessons learned and knowledge with the team, engaging in development opportunities across projects, team meetings and through industry engagements, and defining and promoting Good Practice for AnyLogic modelling.
- Engage with counterparts in other WSP territories to share technical expertise, identify work-winning opportunities, and identify resource sharing opportunities.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrateā¦
- It is expected that you will have an Engineering, mathematics or computer science related degree and be professionally registered with experience in both Rail Simulation & modelling and DES.
- Familiar with engineering design software, simulation software, coding and data analysis tools ideally including AnyLogic.
- An ability to reason logically and apply a systematic process to finding solutions, proactive in responding to problems, able to apply sound logic in situations of ambiguity and problem-solving methodologies across a range of circumstances.
- Actively champion sharing knowledge, ideas, and intelligence. Strong presentation skills influential and persuasive internally and externally, encouraging open dialogue and feedback.
- A forward-thinking mindset, capable of visualising and planning for the longer term.
- An ability to establish, build, sustain and share strong, professional relationships with relevant groups both inside and outside the organisation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across various teams and stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to safety, quality, programme, delivery, budget, professional development and continuous improvement.

- Bachelor's degree in Industrial / Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline.
