A little more about your role…
As a Civil & Structural Resident Engineer this role involves supporting the Energy Civil & Structural team through site visits and inspections, primarily within HV substations, to assess infrastructure and ensure compliance with safety and design standards. You will produce detailed reports, develop risk assessments and method statements, collaborate with designers and assessors, and engage with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Site Visits and Site Inspections on behalf of the Energy Civil & Structural team.
- Visual inspection of Civil & Structural infrastructure – primarily in HV Substations.
- Preparing Risk Assessments & Method Statements, including liaison with other disciplines and site owner (e.g.: SAP)
- Accompanying others during Site Visits – e.g.: those less familiar with site.
- Prepare detailed Site Visit Reports – including photography, descriptions, sketches, word document and excel reports.
- Provide input to Designers and DH15 assessors in the format of reporting and attending design review meetings.
- Discussions with clients, contractors, and other disciplines (e.g.: HV Plant designers)
What we are looking for you to demonstrate...
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil and / or Structural engineering
- Experience in Electricity Infrastructure (ideally NG Substations)
- Familiarity with Construction sites (and, ideally, Design)
- CSCS/EUSR (or equivalent)
- NG Persons (previously National Grid BESC)
- Experience with DH15 Reports
- Experience with on-site Destructive and Non-Destructive Testing
- Willingness to travel to sites (including overnight stays if required)
Experience within the energy transmission and distribution sector, major infrastructure, or industrial projects is highly desirable. Exposure to substation design, regulated environments, or projects requiring independent verification and certification would be particularly advantageous.
