A Little More About Your Role… As an Associate Fire Engineer, you’ll typically be working on a variety of projects at once from a university in Scotland to a high‑rise residential tower in London, with plenty of international projects. All with the same goal of enabling innovative architectural design without compromising on the fire safety of the building. You’ll be running through design information, liaising with other WSP disciplines such as Facades, Acoustics and Structures, presenting designs to local authorities and the Fire Service, and helping to inform the design team about what changes could be made to increase the safety of the building. Naturally, there is a lot to learn and you are likely to be guided through a variation of software packages, fire standards, team briefings and client updates from the start but we’re a nice bunch and we regularly get together for social events.
In addition to the day‑to‑day role, we will assist the successful candidate toward professional registration via IFE and other professional organisations. At WSP, we have multiple opportunities for our fire engineers to grow via a bespoke programme designed to provide you with both professional skills and specialist technical development opportunities. The programme is supported by our senior leadership team and is tailored to give you the support, guidance and development opportunities you need to work towards chartered status or equivalent professional qualifications.
The structured programme includes but is not limited to training in:
- Technical report writing
- Team specific technical skills
- Project management (introduction and advanced)
- Influential communications
- Commercial concepts
- Collaborate team challenge
- Continuous improvement
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate… You will have a BSc (BEng) or MSc (MEng) in Fire, Structural, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent. Must have extensive experience within the fire engineering consulting industry. This role can be based from any of our UK major offices.
Here at WSP we positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, pregnancy or maternity/paternity. As a Disability Confident leader, we will interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria, please let us know if you require any workplace adjustments in support of your application.
