A Little More About Your Role… As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor / Assistant Commercial Manager, you will support the delivery of pre- and post-contract Quantity Surveying (QS) and Cost & Commercial Management services for our clients. This includes assisting with estimating, cost planning, procurement, cost assurance, and post-contract financial/commercial management on projects of varying size and complexity. You will work closely with senior team members, gaining hands‑on experience and developing your technical skills. This role is ideal for someone with some post‑graduate work experience who is passionate about building a career in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management.
Your Team You’ll join a diverse and growing team of Quantity Surveyors, Cost Managers, and Commercial Managers within our Project Management and Commercial Management (PMCM) division – a team of around 400 colleagues across the UK. PMCM provides QS/Cost and Commercial Management, Programme and Project Management, and Project Controls services for both Building and Infrastructure projects in the public and private sectors. Your role will be based from our Birmingham, Mailbox office, within our Civil Infrastructure and Utilities group. Other groups within PMCM include Property and Buildings, Programme Solutions, and Rail. Essential
- A relevant degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
- Some post‑graduate work experience in a QS or commercial environment (consultant, contractor, or client‑side).
- A strong interest in pursuing a career in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management and interest in working towards professional accreditation (e.g., MRICS or AssocRICS).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of QS/Cost and Commercial principles.
Desirable
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
- Adaptable and flexible approach to workload.
- Familiarity with NEC Contracts and other standard forms of contract.
- Working knowledge of specialist software such as CostX or CEMAR.
- Previous experience in sectors such as water, energy, environment, infrastructure, or transportation.
- Ability to travel to project sites and client offices as required.
