A Little More About Your Role…

We are seeking to recruit an Associate to join our Transport Planning team in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices. The successful candidate will have considerable experience in transport planning and development planning, leading major transport planning commissions with private sector clients and the commercial aspects of bidding, winning and delivering successful schemes.

The typical day-to-day responsibilities include the following:

  • Working with senior people in WSP’s Mobility business to further develop and expand market share with private sector clients in Scotland.
  • Support in the management of the Scotland team, both technically and pastorally. Responsibility for attending resourcing meetings, securing team workload and maintaining utilisation expectations.
  • Managing a broad range of transport planning projects, with responsibility for project team management and collaboration, budgeting, programming and technical excellence.
  • Identifying and grasping further opportunities with existing clients.
  • Managing the preparation of bids, fee proposals and project programmes.
  • Attending and presenting at internal and external technical knowledge sharing events.
  • Supervising junior colleagues in undertaking technical tasks and coaching them in acquiring new skills.
  • Working in a large multi-disciplinary office with access to a range of people at a similar career stage across a variety of fields.
  • Delivering for clients from the office alongside colleagues to help develop and coach junior members of staff (hybrid working).

THE TEAM

Our Scotland Mobility team works on an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross sector projects for a range of private and public sector clients. This includes clients in the Scottish renewable energy sector and housebuilders, major growth areas for WSP. The team works primarily on projects within Scotland, while also supporting other projects across the UK and working closely with our planning, infrastructure design, structures and environmental teams. Our local and regional pipeline of work is extensive, and the successful applicant will help us to deliver a challenging and exciting pipeline of work for a range of regional clients.

You will be supported by senior members of the Mobility Team and by our virtual UK wide specialist teams, including industry leading experts. What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…

  • A proven track record of managing transport planning projects for the private sector in Scotland and/or the UK;
  • A proven track record of acting in client facing roles and developing and maintaining client relationships to bring in new work;
  • Experience in providing design advice to developers and architects including preparation of transport assessments;.
  • Experience in the preparation of transport chapters for EIAs;
  • The ability to work at both strategic and detailed levels is highly desirable. Up to date knowledge on latest Scottish transport policies, legislation, and planning processes.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills and experienced in the application of junction and traffic modelling tools.
  • Ability to produce technical project and non-technical public reports and presentations for a range of clients and stakeholders to a high technical standard.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate confidently with clients, stakeholders, team members and present at meetings, workshops and public forums.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to review client briefs and tenders, lead and contribute to fee proposals and lead project delivery including supervising workloads, task delegation, supporting junior staff and managing client expectations.
  • Have a sound commercial awareness and effective financial management of projects.
