  • You will work closely with the Utilities team and wider group of likeminded individuals on exciting and challenging multi-disciplinary projects.
  • The Building Services team in London consists of more than 150 Mechanical, Electrical, and public health engineers.
  • Will be supported by local, regional and international experts along with an extensive technical library and specifications.
  • You will be based in our Chancery Lane office, offering easy commuting options and amenities just around the corner.

A little more about your role…

  • WSP UK are looking for an Associate or Associate Director level consultant with background in utilities consultancy.
  • The co-ordination and management of Utilities risks, costs and programme is a significant element of all projects, which we lead on. Current issues relate to capacity issues with protracted reinforcement, diversionary works, and the open utility marketplace for new supply infrastructure. The role requires specific experience in these areas to deliver a cohesive package for our projects.
  • Your role as a Senior Member of the Utilities Team within Building Services will involve leading engagement with and advising clients on technical utilities matters. You will be using your deep understanding of Utility constraints and opportunities in managing project teams within the UK to deliver innovative technical solutions to meet the project requirements, ensuring utilities are factored into the development proposals and cost plan.
  • The role requires management and co-ordination of utility works from project concept, masterplanning and detailed design from a technical, risk, commercial and deliverable perspective within the London Building Services team and with wider WSP projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for…

  • Leading a wide variety of Utility projects from local schemes to class leading projects of national significance.
  • Leading and working within multidisciplinary teams in the UK, managing coordinated project delivery for utility infrastructure.
  • Providing an experienced senior point of contact for the Building Services team, clients and design teams on key projects.
  • Driving business growth with existing clients and developing new client relationships; working closely with a diverse range of clients to help deliver complex and interesting schemes to the highest standards, budget and programme.
  • Mentoring and developing our growing team.
  • Providing the expected quality of service for our clients and upholding our professional reputation.
  • Delivering a high level of commercially awareness, project/programme management and efficient problem solving.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Degree, or similar equivalent qualification.
  • A proven track record of this client facing role and management of the utility portfolio of works.
  • Experience in planning, coordinating and managing utility disconnections, diversionary works and new supply infrastructure – with a range of strategies for a variety of projects in the UK.
  • A thorough understanding of Electricity, Gas, Water, and Telecommunications networks, in relation to a range of development schemes.
  • Experience of Multi Utility, ICP / IDNO and NAV opportunities and the associated commercial risks and opportunities.
  • An understanding of the relevant utility legislation for which Electric, Water, Gas and Fibre companies operate.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage and work on multiple projects concurrently and effectively organise your time and project teams accordingly.
  • Have the ability to communicate technical detail graphically, deliver reporting and engage effectively with clients and fellow professionals.
  • Able to work using initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of their discipline or have specific specialist experience applicable to the role.
  • Experience in directing BIM teams (AutoCAD / Civils 3D / Revit etc) in their production of quality project models and drawings.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Must be able to obtain UK vetting level of Security Check (SC).
  • Promote WSP’s capabilities and expertise in the region.
  • Development and line management of junior staff.
