Job Overview

As an Associate or Associate Director within our Civil & Structural Engineering team, you will take a leading role in the delivery of engineering services across major Energy Transition and infrastructure projects. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide technical leadership and project direction across a broad range of sectors including power generation, transmission & distribution, substations, gas infrastructure, carbon capture, hydrogen, industrial decarbonisation and other critical energy assets.

You will lead the delivery of civil and structural engineering solutions from concept through to detailed design, ensuring technical excellence, safety and quality throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with clients, project managers and discipline leads to develop trusted relationships and deliver successful outcomes.

Additionally, you will support the growth of the Civil & Structural team through mentoring, capability development, recruitment and business development activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver civil and structural engineering services on complex Energy Transition and industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Act as Lead Engineer, Discipline Lead or Project Manager as appropriate, ensuring successful delivery to programme, budget and quality requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership across structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, foundations, site infrastructure and associated civil engineering works.
  • Develop innovative, sustainable and practical engineering solutions that meet client and project requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted technical advisor and identifying opportunities for future work.
  • Collaborate effectively with mechanical, electrical, process and project management teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
  • Support project planning, resource forecasting and risk management activities.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and technicians, supporting professional development and chartership progression.
  • Contribute to recruitment, capability development and succession planning within the team.
  • Support the preparation of bids, proposals, presentations and technical submissions.
  • Promote engineering excellence, safety in design and continuous improvement across all activities.
  • Contribute to the development of best practice, digital engineering approaches and innovative delivery methods.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or equivalent professional body.
  • Significant experience delivering civil and/or structural engineering projects within energy, industrial or infrastructure sectors.
  • Demonstrable experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating complex design activities.
  • Strong understanding of engineering governance, quality management and Safety in Design principles.
  • Proven ability to manage client relationships and develop business opportunities.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets, programmes and project delivery performance.

  • Transmission and Distribution infrastructure.
  • Electrical substations.
  • Overhead Line (OHL) infrastructure.
  • Power generation facilities.
  • Gas transmission and distribution infrastructure.
  • Hydrogen and carbon capture projects.
  • Industrial and process plants.
  • Heavy rotating equipment foundations.
  • Modular plant design and off-site construction.
  • Petrochemical or chemical processing facilities.
