A little more about your role… As an Assistant GIS Consultant at WSP, you will play an important role in delivering our UK Digital strategy by helping to drive location intelligence across a wide variety of infrastructure, environmental, transport and planning projects. Joining our growing Geospatial team within the Transformation & Digital Insights service line, you’ll contribute to the integration of digital solutions and the advancement of our geospatial analytics capability. Guided by experienced colleagues, you’ll support multi‑disciplinary project teams by preparing, managing and analysing spatial data, ensuring high‑quality information underpins our project outcomes.
Day‑to‑day, you’ll work with a range of geospatial tools—including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise/Online and relevant web‑mapping applications—to produce accurate datasets, insightful analysis, engaging web solutions and clear, professional cartography. You’ll help design efficient data management practices, develop repeatable workflows, and build high‑quality outputs such as dashboards, web applications and hardcopy maps. Whether refining geospatial data, supporting project delivery, or contributing to innovative digital practices, your work will directly help our teams meet deadlines, budgets and quality expectations while delivering excellent results for clients. Collaboration, communication and curiosity will be central to your success. You’ll work closely with clients at all levels of digital understanding, explaining GIS concepts in an accessible way and ensuring geospatial insights are clearly understood.

Responsibilities:
- Undertake GIS mapping, spatial analysis, data capture and data management, ensuring accuracy, consistency and quality across all deliverables.
- Prepare, manage and analyse geospatial data from multiple sources to support multi‑disciplinary project teams, following best‑practice standards and efficient workflows.
- Produce high‑quality maps, figures, dashboards and web applications using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise/Online and ESRI Field Apps, ensuring outputs meet project objectives and client expectations.
- Follow geospatial procedures and documentation to ensure robust and repeatable data management processes.
- Collaborate with internal and external project teams, providing clear explanations of GIS methods and helping colleagues understand digital workflows regardless of their GIS experience level.
- Assist in implementing efficient working practices that enhance the team’s delivery capability and provide best‑value services for clients.
- Contribute to quality assurance, ensuring that all spatial data, analysis and outputs meet required standards for accuracy, clarity and technical robustness.
- Support GIS project delivery activities, helping ensure tasks are completed on time, within budget and to the required quality benchmarks.
- Liaise with project teams and occasional external stakeholders to gather data requirements, share outputs and maintain effective lines of communication.
- Engage in continuous professional development, staying updated with emerging GIS technologies, tools and techniques relevant to WSP’s digital strategy.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Core principles of GIS and GI data management and an ability to apply them especially with regards to Enterprise Geodatabases ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online and ESRI Field Apps.
- Knowledge of the integration of the platforms.
- Configuration of existing web applications such as Dashboards, Web Applications or Survey123.
- Understanding of relational databases and geodatabase design and the ability to deploy them.
- Knowledge of UK GIS datasets both proprietary and open source.
- Customer focussed approach to quality and service.
- Self‑motivated and to show initiative.
- Proactive approach to developing new skills and keeping up to date with technology.
