Architectural Lighting Designer Position available at WSP, one of the world’s leading engineering and professional services firms. Your New Role, What’s Involved…

  • Develop and present lighting concepts, narratives, and design strategies across all RIBA stages.
  • Produce lighting designs, sketches, graphical drawings, specifications, design reports, proposals, lighting calculations and assist in preparing lighting control schematics.
  • Take part in client‑facing discussions with support from senior colleagues, communicating clearly and professionally.
  • Assist in creating detailed design drawings, luminaire detailing, and integrate lighting within architecture and landscape.
  • Gather client requirements and maintain positive communication with project stakeholders.
  • Contribute technical input from concept to design development and support site delivery when required.
  • Attend design and site meetings, tests, surveys, and generate technical reports.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines and support team‑wide collaboration.
  • Support the development of documentation for planning applications, tender submissions, construction packages, and as‑built documentation.
  • Apply a sound understanding of applicable standards, legislation and regulations relevant to lighting and the built environment.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and engineering innovations globally.

  • Part of the Lighting and Energy Solutions team, collaborating with specialists in Electrical and EV, Environmental, Local Government, and Strategic Road Network disciplines.

We’d Love to Hear From You If You Have…

  • Track record of relevant experience in lighting design or a consultancy environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Lighting Design, Interior Design, Product Design, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Good understanding of lighting design principles and exposure to various project types and delivery methods.
  • Ability to contribute creative lighting concepts that enhance wellbeing and communicate ideas through clear visual and written storytelling.
  • Experience supporting team members and a willingness to learn from more senior designers.
  • Working knowledge of lighting calculation software (e.g., DialuxEvo).
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office; familiarity with Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, 3DS Max or V‑Ray is beneficial.
