WSP’s Transport & Mobility team is looking for a Transport Modeller or Assistant Transport Modeller. The role involves developing, calibrating, validating, and forecasting transport models for public and private sector projects across the UK.
Key responsibilities
- Developing and applying transport models, including model building, calibration, validation, and forecasting
- Supporting or leading projects that include transport strategies, business cases, and demand forecasting
- Analysing and interpreting complex datasets to produce actionable insights and recommendations
- Preparing technical reports, presentations and client deliverables
- Scoping modelling requirements and defining appropriate methodologies
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams across planning, engineering and environmental services
- Supporting continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the transport modelling community
- Engaging with clients and stakeholders to explain modelling outputs in a clear, accessible way
Required skills and experience
- Experience developing transport models, including calibration, validation, and testing
- Experience with at least one modelling package such as VISUM, SATURN, EMME or similar
- Analytical and problem‑solving skills
- Understanding of UK transport policy, appraisal and transport modelling guidance (e.g., DfT TAG)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in Python or other programming languages such as R, Java, C++ and GIS
- Ability to communicate technical outputs to non‑technical audiences
- Collaborative approach with confidence to work independently and as part of a team
