A little more about your role… As a Project Manager in the SDF (Service Delivery Framework) Roads team you’ll be working alongside a host of talented people ranging from our early career professionals to established engineers and project managers working across the Roads business to improve the local and strategic networks, based in our London & South East region (located in either of our: Cambridge, London (Westferry Circus), Basingstoke, Guildford or Southampton offices).

What is SDF? The National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) is a multi‑billion‑pound procurement strategy used to maintain, renew, and improve England’s Strategic Road Network (SRN). It enables regional, collaborative, and performance‑based contracts for works such as pavement, civil engineering, and technology to enhance safety and efficiency. Being part of this framework team, you will lead the delivery of moderately complex projects, accountable for scope, schedule, budget, and resource management, while ensuring quality and compliance with WSP’s procedures and client requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project scopes, manage schedules, control budgets, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement, managing expectations, and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues, maintaining registers and mitigation plans.
  • Oversee procurement activities and contract compliance, working within NEC or similar frameworks.
  • Ensure deliverables meet agreed quality standards and that reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  • Manage project documentation, tracking milestones, resources, and change control.
  • Mentor and upskill more junior staff helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
  • Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders as necessary to deliver the schemes/projects.

Qualifications & Skills

  • APM PMQ or equivalent qualification is not a prerequisite but will be greatly beneficial to the role.
  • Proven experience managing projects with accountability for delivery of scope, schedule, budget, and resources.
  • Understanding of NEC contracts or similar, with experience in contract administration and compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Competency in project management tools (e.g., MS Project) and a proactive approach to process improvement.
