WSP's Liveable Places team is growing and we are looking for a Principal or Associate Engineer to join our team in London, based at Westferry Circus, with hybrid working allowing a mix of in-office and home working. In this role you will play a key role in leading the technical design of high quality highways, active travel and public realm schemes, shaping streets and places that are safer, greener and more inclusive. This is a hands-on technical role, balancing project management, design leadership, assurance and mentoring, while working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Leading the delivery of multiple sustainable transport and public realm projects from early concept and business case development through to detailed design and on-site implementation.
- Technical leadership and responsibility for providing technical oversight and quality assurance across highways, public realm and transport projects.
- Reviewing and approving designs, reports and technical deliverables prepared by project teams and supply chain partners.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, client requirements and industry best practice.
- Mentoring and developing junior engineers and graduates.
- Supporting framework opportunities, fee proposals and bid submissions.
- Identifying opportunities for repeat work and account growth.
- Contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team culture and supporting the continued growth of the Liveable Places offer in London.
About the Liveable Places Team
WSP's Liveable Places team works with a wide range of local authority and private clients from across the UK to help them achieve their place-making ambitions. As a Principal or Associate Engineer within the team you will take the lead on delivering a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery – including public realm, active travel, traffic engineering, road safety, parking, traffic signals and pedestrian/traffic modelling.
What we’re looking for
- Experience delivering public realm, active travel or transport schemes in complex urban environments, particularly in London.
- Strong experience in UK highways and public realm detailed design.
- Confident working with standards such as MfS, DMRB, TSRGD and LTN guidance.
- Passionate about design quality and collaborative delivery.
- Proven ability to manage project programmes, budgets, cost control and financial reporting across multiple live projects.
- A proactive, collaborative and delivery-focused approach, with strong communication skills.
