What if you could do the kind of work the world needs? At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. A little more about your role... WSP’s People Movement team are looking to recruit a Senior or Principal People Movement Consultant to join our growing team. The role can be based from any WSP UK & Ireland office, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of home and in-office working.

Why Are We Hiring? As an experienced Pedestrian Modeller you will undertake hands‑on modelling as well as delegating to, mentoring and supervising more junior colleagues. You will attend and may sometimes present at project meetings to key stakeholders and clients, supported by more‑senior staff as needed. Interfacing pro‑actively with other disciplines is a key expectation in order to obtain latest design and operational inputs as well as to inform them of passenger flow spatial requirements. You may be asked to input into and manage the scope and programme for projects, monitoring financials and progress on an ongoing basis. You may also be responsible for technical task management and/or delegation, ensuring initial checks, reviews and approvals are undertaken for technical work and reports for projects on which you are engaged.

In addition to task‑managing and delivering project work, this role offers an opportunity for those wishing to develop wider skills such as:

  • Business Development – networking with WSP colleagues in the UK and overseas; contributing to marketing material;
  • Researching new technologies and trends in people movement data capture and analytics;
  • Staff coaching / training – this may be new starters with no prior experience needing to learn all aspects of model development, analysis and reporting, as well as helping to improve junior staff with constructive feedback; encouraging Best Practice within junior staff.

Our team ethos is to encourage development from within the team at all levels, allowing growth for individuals that in turn feeds into growth of the team.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Excellent pedestrian modelling skills – particularly Bentley Legion – but experience in PTV VisWalk, MassMotion or CAST would be beneficial. Complementary (but not essential) software skills could include Pathfinder, VISSIM, S‑Paramics, AIMSUM, ArcGIS, Power BI, coding in any language.
  • Experience of completing pedestrian modelling projects to a high standard with an understanding of client/project goals and objectives and how your work helped to achieve them.
  • Some experience in project management tasks (estimating work to complete, remaining tasks and the budget/time required to do so – and ensuring projects are delivered on time and budget).

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in a numerate, transport or planning‑related discipline (such as geography).
  • Good knowledge of, and experience in, the application of relevant pedestrian planning guidance (e.g. LUL's Station Planning guidance, The Green Guide, Network Rail Station Capacity Planning Design Manual) and static capacity assessment techniques (e.g. PCL).
  • Communication skills with experience of communicating ideas to a non‑technical audience – through written reports, technical meetings and formal presentations.
  • Strong analytical/critical thinker able to interpret numerical results and extract understanding.
  • Appreciation of project delivery within a commercial organisation (e.g. H&S, programmes, risks and issues, resourcing, budgets).
  • Any other Transport Planning experience within a commercial environment may be beneficial – for example supporting Development Planning applications through Transport Assessments. Similarly, knowledge of particular sectors (e.g. Airports, Sports/Event Management) could bring advantages to the team.
