We are expanding our UK flood forecasting capability within the Sustainable Water Management team and are looking for experienced flood forecast modellers and hydrologists at all levels. You will help deliver and grow our national programme of real time modelling projects, working alongside fluvial and pluvial specialists, hydrologists and modellers across the UK and internationally.

Your work will be varied and challenging and is likely to include the following:
- Deliver and, where appropriate, lead flood forecast modelling and hydrology studies using tools such as Flood Modeller, PDM and hydrodynamic routing.
- Prepare and review model boundaries, undertake rating reviews and complete performance testing.
- Carry out quality assurance and independent technical reviews of forecast products.
- Produce clear, high quality client and public facing deliverables and contribute to the visualisation of complex data.
- Support the development of WSP's flood forecasting service offering.
- Mentor less experienced modellers.
- Support or lead bid proposals and help develop innovative solutions for clients.
- Manage project delivery including commercial, financial and stakeholder aspects.
- Collaborate with UK and international WSP teams.
- Promote a safety first approach in line with WSP policies procedures.
Your Team
Our national fluvial and pluvial modelling team deliver flood modelling (real time and non-real time) to support a broad portfolio of work including flood warning improvements, FCERM studies and strategic infrastructure projects. As an experienced flood forecast modeller, you will be a part of the growing UK based real time modelling capacity and support the development of more junior colleagues.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate …
- Strong understanding of UK flood forecasting techniques, Flood Modeller, rating review, PDM and performance testing.
- Experience delivering and reviewing real time models, including work for UK statutory bodies such as EA, SEPA, NRW or DfI.
- Commercial awareness, including supporting or leading proposal development.
- Ability to engage confidently with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent communication, technical review and analytical skills.
- Chartership or a commitment to achieving it.
- Experience with non-real-time modelling is an advantage.
