As a Consultant within our Cost Intelligence and Estimating team, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality estimating, cost intelligence and benchmarking services for major programmes and projects across infrastructure and built environment sectors. This role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of modern cost management, combining core estimating and quantity surveying expertise with advanced cost intelligence to deliver high-value advisory services.

The successful candidate will be involved in developing robust cost estimates and cost plans across the project lifecycle, applying established construction cost management principles, methodologies, and standards, while also leveraging data-driven insights, benchmarking, and digital tools to enhance accuracy, transparency, and client decision-making.

You will be involved in complex commissions, will have the option to collaborate with colleagues globally and will have access to development and earning opportunities covering all career aspects ranging from technical competency and delivery expertise through to business development helping grow WSP’s presence in key markets and sectors.

YOUR TEAM

You will join our Cost Intelligence and Estimating team of quantity surveyors and estimators who provide specialist estimating, benchmarking and commercial insight across major infrastructure markets, supporting the provision of robust estimating capability, market understanding and client engagement. You will be part of our Project Management and Commercial Management Team (PMCM) – made up of approximately 500 colleagues across the UK.

This team provides Quantity Surveying, Cost and Commercial Management, Programme and Project Management, and Project Controls services across both building and infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients. You will sit within our Civil Infrastructure and Utilities group, working with colleagues across complementary disciplines and drawing on the strength of WSP’s wider UK and global networks to support major client opportunities and strategic growth.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE:

  • Construction cost management, quantity surveying or relevant qualification and/or desire to pursue RICS chartership with our support
  • Demonstrable experience in infrastructure sectors, including applicable knowledge, ability and experience with regard to estimating and benchmarking at various design stages, digital tools, procurement and pre and post cost and commercial management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Passion about making a difference and being part of a dynamic team

And while not essential, we’d be excited if you:

  • Have transferable experience across other regulated infrastructure markets, especially in the water or energy sectors
  • Have experience of using data visualisation or digital reporting tools such as Power BI to communicate cost intelligence insights
  • Possess familiarity with relevant specialist software such as CostX and CEMAR
  • Are keen to develop beyond a technical role by supporting growth plans, bids, proposals and work-winning activities
  • Wish to participate in external events, networks or best practice development
