A little more about your role…
We are seeking to recruit a Principal or Associate Transport Planner to join our Transport Planning team in our Basingstoke office. This is a varied role that will see you work across an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross sector projects for a range of public and private sector clients. Projects include: active travel solutions, transport strategies, and Government funding applications, master planning, access support and development planning.
Some typical responsibilities within this role will include include:
- Supporting senior colleagues within the Mobility Business to further develop and expand our work with clients across the UK.
- Support in the management of the Basingstoke team, both technically and pastorally. Responsibility for attending resourcing meetings, securing team workload and maintaining utilisation expectations.
- Leading and/or managing a broad range of transport planning projects, with responsibility for project team management and collaboration, budgeting, programming and technical excellence.
- Making an active contribution to four key pillars (People; Clients & Growth; Operations; and Technical Excellence) and supporting the Pillar Leads in these roles.
- Leading and supporting in the preparation of bids, fee proposals and project programmes.
- Attending and presenting at internal and external technical knowledge sharing events.
- Supervising junior colleagues in undertaking technical tasks and coaching them in acquiring new skills.
- Working in a large multi-disciplinary office with access to a range of people at a similar career stage across a variety of fields.
The role is based in our Basingstoke office, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of in-office and home working.
Your Team
Our Basingstoke Mobility team includes transport planning, modelling and engineering professionals who work on an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross sector projects for a range of public and private sector clients. This includes a range of active travel solutions, transport strategies, and Government funding applications, master planning, access support and development planning. These projects are not locked to the Basingstoke locality with support offered all across the south, Wales and internationally whilst working closely with our planning, infrastructure design, structures and environmental teams.
Our local and regional pipeline of work is extensive, and the successful applicant will help us to deliver a challenging and exciting pipeline of work for a range of regional clients including Local Authorities and private companies across a range of sectors.
You will be supported by senior members of the Mobility Team and by our virtual UK wide specialist teams, including industry leading experts. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
- Experience working with local authorities in active travel, public transport, scheme development, transport studies, strategies and appraisals. Also in development management, statutory consultation and planning appeals is also desirable.
- Experience in contributing to and preparing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans and providing design advice to developers and architects.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools, excel spreadsheets, transport data analysis and presentation and transportation software including TRICS and junction modelling programmes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate confidently with clients, stakeholders, team members and present at meetings, workshops and public forums.
- Project management experience, with the ability to review client briefs and tenders, develop and contribute to fee proposals and lead project delivery including supervising workloads, task delegation, supporting junior staff and managing client expectations.
- Have a sound commercial awareness including effective financial management.
