A little more about your role… We are seeking an enthusiastic Principal Engineer to support our regional Development Team in North East England (Newcastle and Teesside), focusing on civil engineering for development infrastructure. You will work within a team supporting the production of designs and drawings for construction projects and associated technical reports in support of planning applications and to/through construction stage of projects. You can expect to be active on several projects and client accounts at any given time, including input to multidisciplinary projects in energy, active travel, healthcare, education both in the UK and abroad. You will report to a senior member of the Development Team.

Our team work on some of the most prestigious developments in the UK and beyond, and you will be helping deliver projects such as:

  • SSE HVDC EPC Netherton Hub (NE Scotland)
  • Aykley Heads Active Travel Design (N England)
  • Blyth Energy Learning Centre (NE England)
  • PURE DC Data Centres (throughout Europe)

Although our project work is located UK-wide, and Europe-wide in relation to data centres, designs are delivered from our Newcastle/Teesside Offices, however there is opportunity for some travel when appropriate.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Preferably a Civil Engineering degree and either be Chartered or approaching Chartered status with experience in highway and highway drainage design.
  • Strong post graduate experience in a civil engineering working environment.
  • The ability to produce masterplans, site appraisals, write reports to support planning applications, design calculations and construction drawings.
  • A solid engineering foundation and an understanding of highway design and highway drainage principles (layout, etc.).
  • Experience in using Civils 3D or PDS (or similar software packages) together with experience in applying Highways England/DMRB and Local Authority design guidance.
  • Experience in design of drainage using InfoDrainage and a background in Water Company related work inclusive of the relevant design codes such as Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, DMRB and Local Authority Design Guides, and to be well versed in the preparation of drawings for Contract Documents and requisite technical agreements.
  • The ability to work effectively with colleagues including more senior and junior staff in producing designs, drawings and reports is essential.
