To find out more about our Water business click on the following link and discover what awaits you at WSP: Water Resilience for a Sustainable Tomorrow | WSP A little more about your role… As the demand for our expertise continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Water Engineering teams located in Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle or Glasgow. The Principal Mechanical Engineer will be an integral member of the Water Engineering team and work independently and within a team environment to design, review and deliver technical solutions for various types of facilities and capital projects. This role will support the engineering and design delivery on a wide range of projects primarily producing and/or checking detailed mechanical engineering deliverables. These deliverables will support the project design from feasibility and optioneering through to the production of detailed designs for procurement and construction and review of supplier proposals for a range of varied and high-profile clients. Key responsibilities include: Mechanical engineering technical design and delivery, and its leadership Participation in proposals, scoping of work, identifying key tasks, packages and developing resourcing/time estimates Preparation, as an individual or lead engineer responsible for a team, of mechanical design deliverables including calculations, reports, specifications, datasheets, drawings, schedules and procurement documentation. Technical assurance – preview, review and checking of technical deliverables produced by others. Providing technical guidance, coaching and technical supervision of junior staff including IMechE MPDS mentor role. Working collaboratively with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects delivering work to time, cost and quality expectations. Proactively ensuring HSSE and Quality Assurance systems and procedures are followed. Encouraging and actively promoting skills and innovation within the team, externally to clients and industry contacts Supporting efforts to develop the digital transformation methodology in the delivery and management of projects Management of mechanical elements to meet time, cost and quality criteria on larger multi-disciplinary design projects or work packages that include a degree of programming and resource planning Your Team You will join an established UK team of experienced mechanical engineers comprising grades from technician to Associate Director. Whatever level of experience you bring, we are here to support and motivate you to deliver high quality designs for our clients and, in doing so, develop you to your potential. What we will be looking for you to demonstrate… Qualifications An IMechE accredited degree Professional registration as CEng or IEng Skills and Experience Significant experience in delivering, and leading the delivery of mechanical engineering design aspects of infrastructure projects (preferably within the water industry). Scoping of work, identifying key tasks, packages and developing resourcing/time estimates to support the development of proposals. Leading, and delivering, the preparation and/or review of mechanical design package deliverables such as technical specifications, calculations, reports, datasheets, schedules, and procurement documentation. Good technical understanding of mechanical principles and familiarity with the design of waste water and water treatment processes equipment and pumping systems Good understanding of ‘technical excellence’, and of providing effective technical leadership and review of the work of others. Experience in coaching and mentoring junior team members and supporting the development of technical skills. The ability to work accurately and flexibly, integrating your work with other discipline areas whilst managing your own /your team’s work to tight programme and budget constraints. The ability to communicate clearly; both verbally and in the production of high-quality written documentation using MS Office applications. A confident Client-facing manner. Adopting a diligent, confident, collaborative and highly motivated approach when working as part of a Client’s team, together with WSP colleagues, or independently. Be able to travel and visit operational works and construction sites as required, to act in a safe manner, and to asset survey, inspect, and witness test mechanical equipment and installations.
