Overview
Structural Engineer – Energy Projects at WSP in the UK & Ireland
We are seeking a Structural Engineer to contribute to Energy, Renewable Energy, Healthcare, Heritage, Commercial, Industrial and Hospitality projects across the UK & Ireland.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the efficient and compliant delivery of structural engineering design on the project, working with and reporting to the WSP Senior Engineer.
- Interface and coordinate across multi-discipline teams within the project to ensure the client’s technical requirements are met.
- Contribute to client liaison on day-to-day structural engineering issues and take design responsibility for parts of the structural design works.
- Advise the Senior Structural Engineer in administering the structural design aspects of the contract in a technical capacity.
- Provide day-to-day engineering design support and mentor WSP Assistant and Graduate Engineers or equivalent junior technicians on the project.
- Produce and review technical design work, design calculations and design packages in accordance with WSP processes and Structural Technical Reference Manuals.
- Demonstrate knowledge of REVIT Structure and coordinate structural designs with WSP REVIT Structures models.
- Develop drawing and sketching skills to illustrate concept appraisals, feasibility studies and final design details.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of REVIT Structure with ability to coordinate and integrate designs into WSP REVIT Structures models.
- Progress toward Chartered Engineer status or equivalent with a relevant professional institution, or a formal mentoring pathway.
- If progressed via the Apprentice route, Incorporated Engineer status or EngTech qualification with a recognized institution.
- Ability to conceive approximate scheme solutions to assess viability of alternative materials and forms of construction.
- Ability to solve structural engineering problems using traditional hand calculations and computer analysis, understanding the limitations of these techniques.
- Ability to prepare materials and workmanship specifications and design reports.
- Awareness of environmental and sustainability objectives, issues and legislation and their influence on the design process.
- Experience with construction techniques, temporary works, site visits and construction sequencing.
- Able to prepare and deliver presentations or project briefs.
- Experience mentoring at least one Graduate Engineer or Technician.
- Ability to organise design reviews at key project stages.
- Experience with hazard and risk assessments to mitigate risks on construction materials and activities.
- Ability to manage and lead through programming and resource control in delivery of a part of projects.
- Ensures that issues potentially impacting programme or scope are identified and communicated; shares knowledge to improve discipline efficiency.
- Understanding the scope of the contract and how changes may impact it.
