Overview

Speculative Civil Infrastructure Engineers (Development) – role at WSP in the UK & Ireland. Applications are invited for individuals to join the Development Infrastructure team UK wide, providing high level advice and design on planning and design issues relating to highways, drainage, flood protection, earthworks and service coordination on public sector works, residential developments, business parks, retail, industrial and commercial developments.

What you will do

  • Work within a team to produce designs and drawings for construction projects and deliver technical reports for masterplanning and to support planning applications. You will be active on multiple projects and client accounts and report to an Associate Director.
  • Work as a design engineer within teams to produce designs and drawings to support planning applications and construction.
  • Engage with clients at local and national levels across a number of projects and client accounts.
  • Mentor and manage early career professionals to ensure technical excellence in all deliverables.
  • Provide day-to-day project management support in the delivery of concept studies and strategies with hands-on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawing issues.

What we are looking for

  • A civil engineering degree and approaching Chartered status with experience in highway and highway drainage design.
  • Post-graduate experience in a civil engineering working environment.
  • Experience in producing masterplans, site appraisals, reports to support planning applications, design calculations and construction drawings.
  • Knowledge of and ability to deliver highway design, highway drainage principles (layout, parameters, etc.), surface water and foul drainage designs.
  • Experience using Windes drainage software and PDS or Civils 3D modelling software, with familiarity with Highways England and Local Authority design guidance.
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues including senior and junior staff in producing designs, drawings and reports.
  • Knowledge of relevant design codes such as DMRB, Local Authority Highway and Water Authority Design Guides; experience with drawings for S38 and S278 Highway Agreements and S106 Drainage Agreements.
  • Consultancy or development background with a balance of private and public sector work.
  • Willingness to contribute to the delivery of concept studies and strategies with hands-on design, leading to planning applications or construction drawing issues.
  • Proven experience and interest in helping junior team members in producing designs.
