We are looking to appoint a Senior / Principal Transport Consultant into WSP's Liveable Places team to be based out of our Southampton office, with flexible working allowing for a mix of home and in-office working. WSP's Liveable Places team work with a wide range of local authority & private clients from across the UK to help them achieve their place making ambitions. As a Senior / Principal Transport Consultant within the team you will take the lead on delivering a wide range of schemes from concept to delivery - including public realm, active travel, traffic engineering, road safety, parking, traffic signals and pedestrian / traffic modelling.

As a Senior / Principal Transport Consultant within our Liveable Places team, you will:

  • Act as Designer & Project Manager on a wide range of projects delivering liveable places and better sustainable transport routes in urban and rural settings
  • Work directly with our clients to achieve their sustainable transport needs whilst helping to grow and develop our work with them
  • Prepare and review reports, drawings (using CAD), schedules and other documents in accordance with appropriate design standards, legislation and guidance including LTN 1/20, LTN 1/24, Traffic Signs Manual, MfS, MfS 2, DMRB and CDM 2015
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practice
  • Oversee projects’ budget and financial performance
  • Undertake technical review and checking of design deliverables within the team
  • Work collaboratively with the Liveable Places team and our colleagues in the wider Mobility team and the wider WSP business to achieve our aims and objectives

The Liveable Places team are based in offices across the country with over 200 staff, currently making up the team and with further growth planned. We enjoy our work and are exceptionally enthusiastic people who are great at what we do. Our Southampton team consists of 13 friendly and collaborative staff members who work closely with a broad range of clients, including National Highways, West Sussex County Council, East Sussex County Council, Gloucestershire County Council, Wokingham Borough Council, BCP Council and Somerset Council. Drawing on our collective expertise, we deliver a variety of schemes such as active travel initiatives, bus priority measures, traffic signal improvements, road safety projects, parking solutions, and enhancements to the public realm. Our approach is rooted in partnership and a shared commitment to making communities more accessible, sustainable, and vibrant.

This role provides a great opportunity to have a pivotal role within Liveable Places and help support and steer its growth going forward.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate:

  • A civil engineering, transport engineering or transport planning degree or equivalent
  • Knowledge of current transport policy and standards
  • A proven ability to support with work winning and supporting the growth of our Liveable Places team
  • Proven ability to lead and manage project teams and individuals
  • Proven track record in project management and financial control
  • Passion for mentoring and developing talent
  • Transport, road safety, parking and traffic engineering experience
  • Good spoken and written communication skills, with the ability to liaise with others including public sector officials, members of the public and other senior colleagues
