A Little More About Your Role
The Senior Project Engineer will play an important role in engineering and technical matters associated with offshore wind projects with a particular focus on offshore substations. This is a key growth area for WSP and offers an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and resourceful engineer to help drive and realise the company’s offshore wind strategy. The role will work across engineering and design, Owner’s Engineering and smaller scopes, requiring strong leadership and the ability to manage complex projects. The role requires flexibility to work across all work packages and, at times, support consultancy and strategic advisory projects in support of business requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the technical leadership of large multi-discipline engineering and design projects and take on key positions such as Package Lead or Deputy Engineering Manager.
- Oversee the technical aspects of offshore wind structural engineering projects.
- Support design work and be prepared to review and author key project deliverables.
- Contribute to multi-discipline projects and provide design input into key processes such as offshore substation topside layouts.
- Support on Owner’s Engineer contracts and be competent to undertake and/or co-ordinate design reviews; authoring of key project documentation such as Basis of Design, Technical Specifications and Employer’s Requirements; support of main asset procurement processes; and management of risk and programme.
- Lead on smaller commissions and take on key positions such as Project Manager or Technical Lead.
- Support the Engineering Manager in developing and implementing new processes and procedures to streamline efficient delivery execution.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the offshore wind sector, contributing to the growth of the engineering function.
- Represent the company in technical discussions with stakeholders including clients, regulatory bodies and industry partners.
- Lead and contribute to the development of bids and proposals with a particular focus on technical content.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant technical regulations, standards and best practices.
- Manage technical budgets, schedules and resources effectively.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, project management, asset management, advisory and environmental teams.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in offshore wind technology and incorporate innovative solutions into projects.
What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate
- MEng in structural or civil engineering.
- Chartered Engineer or demonstratable progress in working towards.
- Experience in offshore wind engineering and design with a particular focus on offshore substations.
- Track record in delivery of offshore substation projects to at least Front-End Engineering Design.
- Experience in developing key technical documentation in support of main asset procurement such as Employer’s Requirements and Scope of Works.
- Excellent knowledge of the offshore wind industry and project development.
- Knowledge of offshore wind industry standards.
- Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 including a demonstratable understanding of health, safety and environmental best practice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with strong leadership and management experience.
- Excellent organisation skills with the ability to manage own workload, meet timescales and coordinate both internal and external stakeholders.
- An established network in the offshore wind industry.
Other Highly Advantageous Experience To Demonstrate Could Include
- Experience in offshore substation detailed design, fabrication or transport and installation.
- Experience in both a developer and consultancy environment.
- Experience in supporting main asset procurement processes through development of procurement strategies, preparation of contract documents and undertaking reviews of contractor proposals.
- Site investigation surveys.
- Offshore wind geotechnical design.
- Project certification.
- Preparation of CAPEX estimates.
