Overview: Senior Environmental Lighting Specialist – Join to apply for the Senior Environmental Lighting Specialist role at WSP in the UK & Ireland.

What you will do: You will work on a range of environmental lighting projects delivering design and advisory services for sectors including architectural, planning, dark skies, local government, rail, highways, and aviation. You will contribute to developing environmental capability and support the Environmental and Net-Zero team with obtrusive light assessments, environmental impact assessments, and lighting impact assessment surveys. Projects may be standalone or part of larger national or international assignments. You will also help develop our Net-Zero capability by providing technical support and solutions aligned with Circular Economy and low embodied carbon deliverables.

A Typical Week includes:

  • Technical delivery of environmental reports and strategy documents, collaborating with ecology, planning, and architectural lighting colleagues;
  • Developing your own and mentoring junior staff in environmental lighting skill sets;
  • Reviewing client requirements and developing technical bid proposals;
  • Assisting the Project Manager with bids, reviews and delivering outcome reports;
  • Delivering technical lighting reports, strategy reports and environmental impact assessment reports;
  • Carrying out lighting designs using Lighting Reality, Dialux (or other) design software when needed;
  • Undertaking site surveys in line with Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) PLG04.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:

  • Understanding and technical aspects of obtrusive lighting, dark skies, Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and related professional guidance;
  • Membership of an appropriate Professional Institution;
  • Registration with the Engineering Council (EngTech, IEng or CEng);
  • Proficiency in AGI32, Dialux (or other) design software;
  • Experience and competence within a lighting design project;
  • Ability to coach and mentor junior members of the design team;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong prioritisation and flexibility;
  • Fluent spoken and written English with good IT skills.
