A Little More About Your Role
As part of the Environmental Project Management leadership group, you will be a visible environmental leader for WSP, reporting to the Environmental Project Management Team Leader. Your work will focus on project delivery in a senior leadership capacity, often as Project Manager or Project Director. You will lead multi-discipline projects within our Environment business, sometimes as part of wider project teams with other units.
The projects we deliver are varied and include some of the UK’s most significant infrastructure schemes, such as National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade, East-West Rail, and Sizewell C, along with developments in the built environment. Our clients include public and private sector entities across sectors like highways, rail, aviation, defense, nuclear, residential, energy generation, renewables, and transmission.
Role Summary
- Lead environmental aspects on large, complex projects, ensuring project management fundamentals are met, including programme, commercial, and quality management, with a focus on health, safety, inclusion, and diversity.
- Build and manage high-performing project teams, inspiring delivery of exemplary work.
- Ensure environmental principles are integrated into projects, including compliance, impact mitigation, stakeholder engagement, and sustainability, with knowledge of environmental disciplines and services.
- Promote environmental betterment and future-ready, net-zero strategies within project teams.
- Manage project change and risks, ensuring adherence to governance and contractual scope.
- Provide strategic direction for technical improvements and documentation, including project management plans, risk registers, and schedules.
- Draft commercial proposals, defining project scope, resources, and budgets to support competitive bids.
- Contribute to business development through client meetings, relationship building, and sector insights.

What We Are Looking For
- Proven experience leading environmental projects, achieving key metrics related to schedule, budget, quality, safety, and environmental benefits.
- Strong understanding of future-ready and net-zero strategies, with a passion for environmental improvement.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying key points to teams and stakeholders.
- Experience in business development, including tendering and client relationship management.
- Strong commercial awareness, with experience in contracts like NEC3/4, and financial management skills.
- Knowledge of programme management tools and techniques, with ability to interpret project schedules.
- Membership in professional bodies (e.g., PMI, APM, MIEnvSc, MIEMA, MRICS) and working towards or holding chartership.
