We are seeking a Senior Consultant to join our Land Practice team, combining expertise in agricultural, soil, and landscape management with catchment management capabilities. The role focuses on sustainable catchment management, supporting evidence‑based solutions that balance farming practices with land use, water and environmental outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Manage and deliver projects for clients including governments, utility companies and private companies.
- Lead catchment conceptualisation, data gathering, risk assessment, visualisation and climate data processing (projections, databases and indices).
- Identify and prioritise effective adaptation and mitigation options, including improvements to agricultural practices or nature‑based solutions.
- Support the design and implementation of farming advisory and stakeholder initiatives with partners and farm advisers.
- Develop and embed catchment plans and strategies into sectoral policies, strategies and funding programmes.
- Manage and contribute to business development activities, including proposal preparation and proactive client engagement.
- Participate in capacity‑building activities, including workshop facilitation and delivery.
- Manage a small team of technical experts.
Key Competencies And Experience
- Bachelor’s (2.1 or above), Master’s or PhD in a relevant scientific subject.
- Experience in catchment management for water quality and/or water resources improvements.
- Knowledge of nature‑based solutions and catchment interventions that reduce diffuse and point source pollution or improve water resources management.
- Good understanding of agricultural, land and environmental policy and its interaction with water policy, regulation and planning.
- Good knowledge of farming systems and their interactions with the environment.
- Highly numerate with strong attention to detail and the ability to scrutinise data.
- Personal drive and determination to succeed, self‑determining and positively contributing to the business.
- Strong track record in client relationship management, capable of managing projects and delivering client outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral, for diverse audiences including scientists, politicians and the public.
Desirable Competencies And Experience
- Proficient use of Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH) and/or Python for data analysis.
- Experience with geospatial analysis in qGIS or ArcMap.
- Experience with environmental models/tools to quantify water quality or resources improvement (e.g., SCIMAP, FarmSCOPE, SAGIS).
- Experience in consultancy (proposal writing, project management, client relationship management).
