Join to apply for the Rail Fire Engineer role at WSP in the UK. Your team, Fire Engineering, is an integral part of developing all infrastructure designs. At WSP, we are looking for people to join our high performing, dynamic and enthusiastic Railways Fire Engineering Team. The WSP Rail Fire Engineering Team, with supportive leadership, is made up of individuals with all levels of experience and are based in multiple locations.
We develop fire engineering design for Rail and Road infrastructure from concept design stage through to construction, assurance and commissioning, as well as carrying out fire risk assessments and finding solutions for retrofitting within existing and challenging infrastructures. We strive to build the unthinkable with a can-do, solution-conscious, positive attitude towards work.
To meet the ever-growing demand, we are looking for individuals to work on Railways and Road Tunnels Fire Engineering, both in the area of design and development of Fire Safety Design as well as Fire Systems Engineering (specifically, fire detection, alarm, fire suppression and fire hydrant design).
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Process of Fire safety design and planning
- Use of the Technical Guidance and Standards in the field of Fire Engineering
- Assisting with development of fire strategies from concept stage to construction
- Assisting with developing Static Evacuation Analysis for surface stations, deep underground stations and tunnel environments
- Ability to assist with carrying out Fire Risk Assessments for compliance with relevant fire safety codes
- Assisting with fire safety systems designs such as fire alarm and detection, fire suppression systems and facilities for firefighter intervention (fire hydrant designs)
- Technical knowledge and abilities in subjects such as heat transfer, fluid dynamics and fire performance of materials
- Excellent technical knowledge in Fire Engineering or another applicable engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or structural fire engineering)
- Professional qualification – Chartership preferred
- Awareness and appreciation of interdisciplinary design through all stages of the design process
- Able to take a brief from the project lead and complete tasks within time and budget
