About Your Role

Our office is in Exeter city centre. The South West has a wonderful variety of landscapes and activities to enjoy, and has good transport links to the rest of the country. We are passionate about supporting Local Authorities to deliver improvements for local communities, with a focus on Active Travel and sustainable mobility. This role offers a great opportunity to develop your career through diverse experiences.

Reporting to the Highways Team Lead, you will provide highways design and consultancy services for local authority clients within the South West. Your work will include:

  • Delivering projects that help safeguard the future of the local transport network.
  • Managing projects through their entire lifecycle, from inception to construction.
  • Handling a varied workload from major highway improvements to traffic enhancements.

You will be expected to:

  • Work directly with clients to meet their sustainable transport goals.
  • Lead technical design and project management to ensure project success.
  • Mentor and manage team members, providing guidance and support.
  • Prepare and review reports, drawings, and schedules adhering to local standards.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across the UK and internationally.
  • Supervise construction activities for project delivery.

Candidate Requirements

  • Passion for projects that positively impact communities.
  • Experience in highway, traffic, and civil engineering projects, especially promoting sustainable and active travel.
  • Ability to manage projects and people effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills for liaising with officials, the public, and colleagues.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Professional status preferred; candidates working towards this are also considered.
  • A civil engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  • A full, clean driver’s license.
