Principal / Associate – Minerals and Waste

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Consultant / Associate to join the minerals and waste specialists in our Environmental Planning nationwide team. This role offers the chance to contribute, manage and deliver planning and environmental inputs to a range of projects for a broad client base, including projects that may be consented under the Town and Country Planning Act, Planning Act 2008, or Electricity Act 1997, in sectors such as minerals and waste, low carbon and hydrogen and energy generation and transmission. Our projects are varied and at the leading edge of professional practice, presenting an opportunity to leverage your experience to develop your career and help shape our continued growth.

A Little More About Your Role…

The role involves working as part of multidisciplinary teams to deliver inputs across project lifecycles from early strategy development, through feasibility/optioneering to detailed design and assessment. Most notably:

  • Leading and supporting colleagues across the WSP business in providing clients with appropriate technical and consenting advice in relation to minerals and waste projects.
  • Leading and supporting colleagues across the WSP business with the minerals and waste aspects of other types of projects—most notably, the provision of minerals/materials and waste impact assessments in support of a range of development projects (residential projects; major infrastructure projects, etc.).
  • Management of projects and budgets to deliver high quality outputs that meet internal and client requirements.
  • Interface with wider project stakeholders including the client’s engineering team, consultation leads, lawyers, and regulators as required.
  • Representing WSP and its clients to key stakeholders and regulators as required.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate…

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience contributing to the delivery of minerals and waste projects in the UK.
  • A good understanding of the UK planning system.
  • Knowledge of the Environmental Impact Assessment process.
  • Excellent reporting skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver carefully considered solutions and high quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, clients, suppliers and industry.

Qualifications

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Town Planning or a relevant discipline.
  • Membership of the RTPI or other relevant body (e.g., IEMA, RICS).
