Overview

OHL (Overhead Line) Engineer (Energy) – WSP, UK & Ireland.

What you will do

  • Provide technical evaluations and problem-solving guidance to team members.
  • Prepare written proposals outlining project scope, timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
  • Offer technical guidance throughout project implementation, statutory planning, and public consultation events.
  • Lead engineering and design activities for overhead lines, including PLS-CADD modelling, line routing, structure analysis and loading trees, design criteria, sag-tension calculations, insulator/conductor considerations, swing angles, damper systems, structure spotting, clearance reports, conductor and insulator selection, etc.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, perform conductor thermal ratings, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Identify technically preferred solutions/layouts for client consideration.
  • Participate in industry working groups (e.g., CIGRE, IEEE).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent; preferably Electrical or Power engineering.
  • Experience in overhead line engineering up to 400kV.
  • Experience on upgrading projects (e.g., High Temperature Low Sag conductors).
  • Desirable: PLS CADD/POLE/TOWER.
  • Knowledge of galloping studies, EMF/Field Effects calculations, wake effects, and AC interference for gas pipelines is a plus.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as projects dictate.
