We are seeking an experienced Project Director / Bid Director to lead both bid acquisition and the delivery of major infrastructure projects within our Intelligent Infrastructure business. This senior leadership role combines strategic bid leadership with accountable project delivery.

A Little More About Your Role

  • Lead major bids and framework opportunities, setting winning strategies and overseeing end‑to‑end bid development.
  • Act as Project Director on key commissions, accountable for successful delivery across scope, cost, programme and quality.
  • Shape client relationships at senior level, supporting long‑term growth with key clients such as National Highways and local authorities.
  • Provide leadership across multidisciplinary teams, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration and delivery excellence.

What Will You Be Responsible For?

Bid Leadership
  • Define and lead win strategies, value propositions and partnering approaches for Intelligent Infrastructure commissions.
  • Direct bid teams, coordinating technical, commercial and governance inputs.
  • Ensure compliance with WSP governance, including risk, commercial and quality reviews.
  • Lead client engagement during pursuit phases, including presentations and negotiations.
Project Direction & Delivery
  • Act as Project Director for major projects and programmes, ensuring safe, compliant and profitable delivery.
  • Maintain accountability for commercial performance, contract obligations and risk management.
  • Lead project governance, reporting and client engagement.
  • Ensure delivery teams achieve programme milestones, quality standards and budget targets.
Leadership & Growth
  • Build and lead high‑performing teams across disciplines and locations.
  • Mentor and develop senior staff and future leaders.
  • Identify and convert pipeline opportunities, supporting business growth.
  • Contribute to capability development and continuous improvement initiatives.

What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Proven experience delivering £1m+ digital infrastructure projects or programmes in a Project Director or equivalent role.
  • Strong track record of leading and winning complex bids (£3m+), including frameworks and large‑scale tenders.
  • Commercial acumen, including contract management, risk mitigation and financial performance.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and engage effectively with senior clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience operating within structured governance and assurance environments.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and leadership skills.
