The Role

WSP’s Land team is the largest and most successful in the industry, with over 300 specialist professionals across the UK and Ireland. We support infrastructure development through land referencing, land acquisition, land access, formal consents, statutory orders, and landowner engagement. The role delivers these services across all infrastructure sectors, making a positive impact on economies and communities.

Junior Land Consultant Responsibilities

  • Support the wider team in identifying landowners, occupiers and other parties with a legal interest in land through research and interpretation of information.
  • Assist in delivering land access, landowner engagement, stakeholder engagement, and supporting projects through consenting stages and statutory processes.
  • Collaborate with over 300 Land colleagues across the UK, Ireland and India on high‑profile projects in the energy, highways, rail, water, local government and aviation sectors.
  • Work toward professional accreditations; candidates may engage with Chartered Geographers (CGeog), Chartered Town Planners (RTPI), and Chartered Surveyors (AssocRICS and MRICS).
  • Report to a Consultant or Senior Land Consultant.
  • Participate in CPD‑accredited Land Academy training, receiving full training combined with on‑the‑job learning.
  • Support the team in identifying legal interests in land through desktop research, including land registry title interpretation, companies’ details checks and address validations.
  • Contribute to the delivery and success of high‑profile infrastructure projects across the UK and Ireland.
  • Interpret and process incoming documents such as questionnaires and access licences from landowners to support land access delivery.
  • Travel within the UK and Ireland, with opportunities to travel further afield.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • Recently graduated with a degree in Geography, Land/Estate Management, Agriculture or another relevant discipline, or possess equivalent experience.
  • Experience in desktop researching and problem‑solving to identify landowners, occupiers, land interests and rights.
  • Willingness to visit sites as part of a team, including periods away from home (accommodation and expenses provided).
  • Good communication and organisational skills, with experience managing data.
  • Proficiency in reading and using maps and interrogating datasets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with comfort in articulating findings.
  • Experience using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
  • The ability to travel effectively to various sites/locations, a necessary function of this role.

The role is based in our Leeds or Newcastle offices, with the flexibility of hybrid working between one of these locations and from home. The ideal candidate will be located within North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire, County Durham, Teesside, Tyne and Wear or North Lincolnshire.
