WSP is growing across the Responsible Consumption and Production team, which hosts the waste and resources management expertise. The role may include leading, managing and/or delivering work in the following areas, depending on experience and interests:
- Options appraisals;
- Waste flow and cost modelling;
- Business case development;
- Technical procurement advisory input;
- Proposals for winning work;
- Business development initiatives including publication of thought pieces and articles;
- Line management and/or mentoring of junior staff;
- Providing excellent care for clients and team members by adhering to our business values.
Guidance and support will be provided to help the consultant confidently deliver the above role and transition into next career stages. The range of projects could include, but is not limited to:
- Leading and/or supporting projects across a wide range of waste management themes, focusing on options appraisal and procurement of waste infrastructure and environmental services contracts;
- Supporting delivery of waste management options appraisal and waste flow and cost modelling (e.g., in areas such as waste collection, household reuse and recycling centres, treatment facilities);
- Supporting procurement exercises including assessing contract extension proposals, developing tender specifications and documentation, evaluating bidder submissions or working with bidders to develop proposals;
- Developing business cases to support delivery of services differently (e.g., change of collection method or service management model);
- Environmental service reviews to analyse effectiveness and identify improvements and savings for clients.
Responsibilities:
- Manage projects by applying internal procedures to ensure projects are well monitored, delivered on time and within budget with high client satisfaction.
- Act as technical expert or provide input to a range of resources and waste projects, including drafting full reports with input from others or contributing as directed.
- Attend meetings with clients from inception to final reporting, involving a range of stakeholders including public and private sector representatives.
- Lead and support the development of proposals ensuring they are of high quality, clear and competitive.
- Develop and deliver services by implementing methodologies that are innovative, robust, time- and cost-effective and client-focused.
- Build and maintain relationships with existing and potential clients to increase the company profile and develop work pipelines.
- Lead and/or deliver projects by collaborating with colleagues and adhering to principles and policies.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate:
- Previous experience of working for a consultancy, local authority or other organisation on waste management related projects.
- Experience in developing (or contributing to) several of the following: Options appraisal (qualitative and quantitative); Waste flow and cost modelling; Technical procurement documents such as specifications, method statements, or their submission requirements, performance management framework, invitation to tender etc.
- Understanding of resources and waste legislation and policy in the UK.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team and contribute to team knowledge and development.
- Tenacity to explore challenging tasks to propose effective solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey key conclusions succinctly.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Degree in a relevant subject, preferably science, environment or engineering.
