We are looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our London office, focusing on the Data Centre sector within our Mission Critical Facilities team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the team in developing conceptual designs for electrical distribution systems from EHV, HV, MV to low voltage, incorporating high voltage equipment, generation equipment, UPS plant, low voltage switchgear, and power control and monitoring systems.
  • Provide advice to clients regarding electrical systems/requirements to meet their business needs.
  • Lead the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment.
  • Provide written reports of system options in the form of design development notes.
  • Produce technical specifications for electrical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines including architects and structural engineers.
  • Produce calculations, technical/equipment specification documentation for tender.
  • Monitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employer requirements, design specifications and all relevant safety codes.
  • Be comfortable in a client‑facing role discussing technical subjects and agreeing client requirements.
  • Work independently and as part of the WSP global project team.

  • The Building Services team in London consists of more than 100 mechanical, electrical and public health engineers, including our E&S and Smart Team members.

Qualifications

  • Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working toward Chartered status) or equivalent experience.
  • Technical knowledge of relevant UK & EU regulations, design guides, etc.
  • IT literate with a technical understanding of relevant IT packages such as Trimble (formerly Amtech).
  • Understanding of the ETAP software package for HV modelling (fault current, current flow and harmonics).
  • Understanding of the Neher‑McGrath method of calculating underground cable temperatures and ampacity.
  • Understanding of the Tier classifications as defined by The Uptime Institute, TIA‑942 and EN 50600.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, and effectively lead, direct and mentor individuals.
  • Understanding of working with Revit MEP or other 3D design software to allocate and direct work on projects.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD to allocate and direct work on projects.
