We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced PD Representative. The role involves providing specialist advice and guidance on CDM compliance, risk management, and health and safety throughout the design and construction process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure risk management processes are in line with CDM 2015 and that design management plans, risk registers and survey information are reviewed and communicated.
  • Work closely with the project team to deliver all Principal Designer responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with designers to apply the Principles of Prevention to design out risks and hazards as far as reasonably practicable.
  • Assist the client with the provision of Pre‑construction Information.
  • Provide Pre‑construction Information to all designers and contractors.
  • Prepare the Health and Safety File.
  • Pass the Health and Safety File to the Principal Contractor or client as appropriate.
  • Attend site to establish pre‑construction conditions, layout and collect risk information, including H&S/O&M and site risk management data.
  • Review and support transfer of risk information from the design team during the pre‑construction phase, enabling CPP development.
  • Conduct safety audits at a regular frequency to monitor progress and statutory compliance onboard.
  • Implement a near‑miss reporting mechanism and accident reporting tracker or database in line with client processes.
  • Support continual improvement programme; promote lessons‑learnt sessions for the project team and improve engagement to H&S awareness and commitment at all levels.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Diploma or Construction Certificate (or higher) or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Experience acting as CDM Principal Designer on medium to large projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and wider construction health and safety legislation.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to lead meetings and engage confidently with clients, designers and contractors.
  • Proficiency in preparing pre‑construction information, design risk registers and Health and Safety Files (CDM Documentation).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in a construction‑related discipline or civil engineering.
  • Experience with National Grid Transmission in a Principal Design Representative or comparable role.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, APS, RIBA, ICE, CIOB, CABE).
