WSP is looking for a Principal Arboriculturist to join our team in the UK & Ireland. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to work on landmark projects, collaborate with leading professionals and contribute to the future of sustainable urban environments.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic support to Directors.
- Conduct site‑based surveys, assessments, measurements, inspections and monitoring in relation to BS5837:2012 and tree hazard assessments.
- Cull and interpret arboricultural information from desk studies.
- Prepare technical reports and feasibility studies for NSIP / DCO projects, and input data into arboricultural impact assessments and method statements.
- Liaise with the design team to develop mitigation solutions.
- Perform data analysis and manage project timelines.
- Maintain high quality work within tight deadlines and agreed standards.
- Analyse financial reports, utilisation and project conversion, and support project pricing at all levels.
- Build and maintain internal and external professional networks.
- Contribute to the strategic development of the arboriculture team.
- Participate actively in recruitment and in the professional development of junior team members.
- Manage a team of consultants and inspire high‑performance teamwork.
- Travel within the UK as required.
Qualifications
- Enthusiasm for arboriculture and a willingness to learn.
- Minimum Level 4 qualification in arboriculture or a related field, or an appropriate academic qualification.
- Professional Tree Inspector (PTI) certificate.
- Experience with NSIP / DCO projects and at a senior consultant level.
- Strong health and safety approach and understanding of relevant legislation.
- Experience in digital data capture for arboriculture surveys.
- Producing high‑quality technical arboriculture reports for planning applications and DCO projects.
- Inspiring teamwork and mentorship capabilities.
- Knowledge of arboricultural survey methodologies.
- Flexibility to travel and work away from home within the UK regularly.
- Desire to develop core arboriculture and consultancy skills.
