The Offshore Renewables Lead is a senior leadership role within the Renewable Power Generation team responsible for delivering the offshore engineering strategy across a portfolio of offshore wind and broader marine energy projects, including subsea cables and related HVDC/AC transmission assets. The role combines client‑facing leadership, business development, and team and portfolio management, ensuring high‑quality, commercially successful project delivery from early development through to construction and operation. The role acts as a trusted advisor to clients, a leader of multidisciplinary engineering teams, and a key contributor to sales growth, supporting WSP's ambitions in offshore wind generation, offshore/onshore transmission and other related marine infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Client Leadership & Market Presence
- Act as a senior client‑facing representative, building trusted relationships with developers, investors, utilities, OEMs, EPCs and public sector bodies.
- Lead technical engagement with clients during early‑stage development, due diligence, FEED, and delivery phases.
- Represent the business at industry forums, conferences, and client workshops, positioning the organisation as a market‑leading offshore engineering advisor.
- Provide strategic technical advice aligned with client objectives, risk appetite, programme and commercial drivers.
- Sales, Growth & Work Winning
- Play a lead role in business development, supporting and leading bids, tenders and framework opportunities across offshore wind and transmission projects.
- Shape technical win themes, delivery models and execution strategies in collaboration with commercial, project management and sector leads.
- Support organic growth through repeat client engagement and long‑term framework delivery.
- Contribute to revenue, margin and utilisation targets aligned with the wider offshore and renewables business plan.
- Drive profitable growth, repeat business and long‑term framework appointments.
- Project & Portfolio Delivery
- Provide oversight of project delivery to ensure technical excellence, programme certainty, budget control and risk management.
- Support project teams in resolving complex technical, commercial and delivery challenges.
- Ensure effective resource planning across the offshore engineering portfolio, including management of subcontractors and partner organisations.
- Contribute to strong project governance, reporting and client satisfaction outcomes.
- Undertake role as Project Director or other senior roles across the portfolio of projects.
- Team Leadership & Capability Development
- Lead, develop and inspire a high‑performing offshore engineering team, including discipline leads, technical specialists and emerging talent.
- Set a clear vision for capability growth aligned to market needs (e.g. floating wind, HVDC, integrated design, FEED and DD).
- Support recruitment, mentoring, performance management and succession planning.
- Promote a culture of safety, collaboration, inclusion and continuous improvement across geographically distributed teams.
- GCC Delivery Capability Establishment
- Establish and scale an integrated offshore engineering delivery team in the GCC, aligned with UK and global operations.
- Define the operating model, governance and quality assurance for GCC‑based delivery.
- Enable effective task offloading, design production and technical support while maintaining high technical and safety standards.
- Support capability building, training and knowledge transfer between regions.
- Ensure the GCC team supports cost‑effective, scalable growth in offshore markets.
- Take accountability for technical performance, assurance and delivery outcomes from GCC‑based teams.
Qualifications
- Degree qualification (or equivalent) in relevant Engineering subject supported with significant postgraduate experience.
- Chartered Engineer and a member of relevant Engineering Institute.
- Significant experience of leading multi‑disciplinary consultancy teams in the conventional or renewable Energy sector.
- Outstanding client focus and a commitment to problem solving in a collaborative way.
- Knowledge of the design and construction of power and energy projects.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence and work with people at all levels of an organisation.
- Ability to deal with conflicting priorities and offer win‑win solutions.
- Willingness to travel within the UK and overseas, as required by the projects.
