Your Role
As our Environmental Manager, you will oversee the implementation and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System (EMS). Your focus will be on effectively communicating environmental practices to our teams and integrating them into our operations for premises and project delivery. Collaboration with our ESG and Carbon Management teams is essential to align efforts with broader sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive a consistent approach to environmental management across the business by raising awareness and building relationships with stakeholders.
- Develop, implement, and maintain the EMS, ensuring compliance with legislation, regulations, and WSP Global HSEQ requirements. Collaborate with the ESG team on connections with the Carbon Management Process.
- Identify opportunities for environmental risk reduction and improvements through behavioral change and innovative solutions.
- Provide oversight and support for environmental management activities within the business.
- Engage with environmental champions and employee-led groups to promote sustainability initiatives.
- Assist business disciplines in assessing project environmental risks, compliance obligations, and controls.
- Engage with stakeholders, regulators, contractors, and suppliers to ensure best practices in environmental management.
- Set and monitor environmental targets and objectives aligned with policy and strategic goals.
- Manage and report on environmental performance, incidents, and KPIs.
- Conduct internal environmental audits and participate in global HSEQ groups.
- Support continual improvement through the HSEQ Excellence Program.
- Ensure governance compliance with ISO 20400 for sustainable procurement.
- Work with procurement and ESG teams on environmental requirements for tenders and onboarding.
- Develop collateral documents to support bids and projects.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience in environmental management, preferably within engineering, construction, or consultancy sectors.
- Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, risk mitigation, and EMS standards like ISO 14001.
- Degree in environmental management or related field; professional membership (IEMA, CIWEM, CIEEM) preferred.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure.
- Passion for environmental issues and leadership in sustainability.
