Environmental Clerk of WorksWSP's Environmental team, one of the UK's largest, supports multidisciplinary projects across the country. We are seeking an Environmental Clerk of Works to manage construction‐stage environmental compliance for a growing portfolio of projects, primarily in Scotland.
Responsibilities
Field‐based monitoring of construction sites across various industries (windfarm, grid connection, underground cabling, sub‐sea cabling, etc.) to ensure adherence to environmental legislation.
Conduct site inspections and audits against planning conditions and documents such as Construction Environmental Management Plans.
Provide guidance and solutions to contractors and clients on environmental compliance and best practice methods.
Act as a key contact with ecologists, hydrologists, archaeologists, and engineers to deliver integrated environmental services.
Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and subcontractors regarding environmental management practices.
Support operation and design teams with compliance and project‐specific mitigation measures.
Deliver toolbox talks and on‐site environmental guidance to contractors.
Travel extensively – often working away from home between Monday and Friday, 3 weeks out of 4.
Assist site teams with incident investigation and reporting.
Compile weekly site reports and support administrative tasks for management.
Qualifications
Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Management.
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation.
Experience monitoring construction activities from small to large projects, aligned with best practice guidance.
Ability to work under time pressure to resolve emerging environmental issues on site.
Membership of a professional body.
CSCS card or actively pursuing one.
Understanding of environmental management in a construction context and of environmental impact assessment legislation, policy and guidance.
Knowledge of Environmental Authorisations (Scotland) Regulations (EASR) and pollution prevention.
Highly organised, pragmatic, solutions‐driven, proactive and reliable approach to work.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to engage confidently with clients and peers.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to remote project sites across Scotland.
